Proverbs 22:1
1 A good name is more desirable than great riches;
to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.
Ecclesiastes 7:1
Wisdom
1A good name is better than fine perfume,
and the day of death better than the day of birth.
Ecclesiastes 10:1
1 As dead flies give perfume a bad smell,
so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.
Acts 5:29, 31-35
29Peter and the other apostles replied: "We must obey God rather than men!
31God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might give repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel.
32We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him."
33When they heard this, they were furious and wanted to put them to death.
34But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, who was honored by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside for a little while.
35Then he addressed them: "Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men.
Philippians 2:5-11
5Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
6Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
7but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to death--
even death on a cross!
9Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Acts 6:1-6
The Choosing of the Seven
1In those days when the number of disciples was increasing,
the Grecian Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because
their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.
2So
the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, "It would not
be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to
wait on tables.
3Brothers, choose seven men from among you
who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this
responsibility over to them
4and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word."
5This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen,
a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus,
Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to
Judaism.
6They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.
Acts 10:21, 22
21Peter went down and said to the men, "I'm the one you're looking for. Why have you come?"
22The men replied, "We have come from Cornelius the
centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man, who is respected by
all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to have you come to his
house so that he could hear what you have to say."
Matthew 5:16
16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
Luke 6:45
45The good man brings good things out of the good stored up
in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil
stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth
speaks.
Proverbs 12:2
2 A good man obtains favor from the LORD ,
but the LORD condemns a crafty man.
Psalm 112:5
5 Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely,
who conducts his affairs with justice.
Psalm 37:23, 24
23 If the LORD delights in a man's way,
he makes his steps firm;
24 though he stumble, he will not fall,
for the LORD upholds him with his hand.
Psalm 1:1, 2
1 Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
Proverbs 17:27
27 A man of knowledge uses words with restraint,
and a man of understanding is even-tempered.
Matthew 5:13-16
Salt and Light
13"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its
saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for
anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
14"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.
15Neither
do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on
its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
