Matthew 11:28, 29
28"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Psalm 37:7
7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when men succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.
Genesis 2:1-3
1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.
3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
Exodus 23:12
12 "Six days do your work, but on the seventh day do not
work, so that your ox and your donkey may rest and the slave born in
your household, and the alien as well, may be refreshed.
Exodus 31:12-17
The Sabbath
12 Then the LORD said to Moses,
13 "Say to
the Israelites, 'You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign
between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I
am the LORD , who makes you holy.
14
" 'Observe the Sabbath, because it is holy to you. Anyone who
desecrates it must be put to death; whoever does any work on that day
must be cut off from his people.
15 For six days, work is
to be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD
. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must be put to death.
16 The Israelites are to observe the Sabbath, celebrating it for the generations to come as a lasting covenant.
17It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he abstained from work and rested.' "
Mark 6:30-32
Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand
30The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught.
31Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest."
32So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.
I Corinthians 6:19, 20
19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy
Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not
your own;
20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
Ecclesiastes 8:15
15 So I commend the enjoyment of life, because nothing is
better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then
joy will accompany him in his work all the days of the life God has
given him under the sun.
Psalm 91:1-6, 11, 12
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD , "He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust."
3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
Psalm 121:5-8
5 The LORD watches over you-
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm-
he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
Hebrews 4:1-11
A Sabbath-Rest for the People of God
1Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still
stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen
short of it.
2For we also have had the gospel preached to
us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to
them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith.
[1] 3Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said,
"So I declared on oath in my anger,
'They shall never enter my rest.' "
4And
yet his work has been finished since the creation of the world. For
somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: "And on
the seventh day God rested from all his work."
5And again in the passage above he says, "They shall never enter my rest."
6It still remains that some will enter that rest, and those who formerly had the gospel preached to them did not go in, because of their disobedience.
7Therefore God again set a certain day, calling it Today, when a long time later he spoke through David, as was said before:
"Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts."
8For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day.
9There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God;
10for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his.
11Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.
Isaiah 57:1, 2
1 The righteous perish,
and no one ponders it in his heart;
devout men are taken away,
and no one understands
that the righteous are taken away
to be spared from evil.
2 Those who walk uprightly
enter into peace;
they find rest as they lie in death.
